The CLS is
the oldest institute at the University of Malta. It was set up as
the Workers' Participation Development Centre in 1981.
Its main goal is the improvement of working conditions and the democratisation
of the workplace. Its name was changed to Centre for Labour
Studies in 2005.
The aims of
the Centre are:
- The organisation
of educational activities which support the development of participation
at the workplace and society at large.
- The execution
of research on labour relations and employee participation, locally
and abroad.
- The publication
of books, journals, articles and other material providing a critical
commentary on labour and social policy.
The CLS relies on a four pronged strategy to fulfil these broad
objectives. The respective strands of this strategy are:
Education, Research,
Documentation, Promotion
and Consultancy
