Welcome to the Department of English
The Department offers a variety of compulsory and optional
courses at B.A., B.A. (Hons.) and M.A. (Qualifying) levels.
In the B.A. Course the study programme is divided
into five major components:

Drama: early Tudor to modern and contemporary
theatre;

Poetry: Middle English, Renaissance to contemporary;

Novel: Rise of the genre through to contemporary
fiction;

Theories of Literature and Practical Criticism; and
-
Language: Phonetics, phonology, syntax, sociolinguistics,
psycholinguistics, discourse analysis and field methods in linguistics.
The Departmental M.A. and Ph.D. programmes are based
on supervised research.
Candidates following the M.A. Course are also expected
to take the compulsory course in Advanced Literary Theory. |
