Prof Michael Bowe

Professor of International Finance 

Mike Bowe graduated from Oxford University and was Assistant Professor of Economics at Simon Fraser University from 1984-1993 before joining the University of Manchester (then UMIST) in 1993. He is a faculty member of the Manchester Accounting and Finance group, one of the leading research groups in Europe. 

He has extensive International teaching experience and has held the following visiting academic positions at the Helsinki School of Economics and Business Administration, Goizueta Business School at Emory University, the National University of Singapore, the University of Vienna and the Centre for the Study of Futures Markets at Columbia University. He has been a Visiting Professor at the University of Malta since 1993.

Recent research publications have appeared in Oxford Economic Papers, Princeton Studies in International Finance, Journal of Business Finance and Accounting, Accounting and Business Research, Pacific-Basin Finance Journal, International Business Review and the Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions and Money amongst other journals. 

This research activity has been recognised through the award of grants from several agencies including: The ESRC, The Nuffield Foundation, Social Science and Humanities Research Council, the Financial Research Foundation of Canada, the Certified General Accountants Association of Canada, and the Centre for the Study of Futures Markets at Columbia Business School. 

His consulting experience lies in the area of international finance and derivatives markets, and is extensive. Clients have included; World Bank, Canadian International Development Agency, Government of British Columbia, Union Bank of Finland Ltd., Den Danske Bank, Kansallis-Osake-Pankki, Bank of Valletta, Singapore Stock Exchange, and the Finnish Options Market.

Memberships in Professional Associations include: Royal Economic Society, American Economics Association, Canadian Economics Association, European Finance Association, Academy of International Business, European International Business Association, and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers.
