Prof. Edward Scicluna lectures in microeconomics, econometrics, development economics and economics of the environment. His main research areas are public sector, export competitiveness and sustainable development. He graduated B.A. (Hons) Economics (University of Malta 1975), M.A. Economics (University of Toronto 1976), Ph.D. Economics (University of Toronto 1981) and also Special Diploma in Social Studies (University of Oxford 1972). Professor Scicluna has served in various capacities on various public bodies and international organisations, including: member of the Monetary Policy Committee, Board Director of the Central Bank of Malta, Chairman and President of the Malta Financial Services Authority, President of the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development, Chairman of the Authority of Review, Chairman of the Commission investigating Maritime Transportation Restrictive Practices, Electoral Commissioner, member of the Council of Europe Development Bank Auditing Committee, member of the National Commission for Sustainable Development, and Malta’s Focal Point on the UNEP’s Mediterranean Action Plan. He has recently been appointed Chairman of the Private Sector Committee within the National Euro-Changeover Committee. Among the recent papers presented are: “Eastward Enlargement and the EU’s Mediterranean Strategy, The Role of Civil Society in Euro-Mediterranean Policy after Enlargement”, EESC-CNEL Conference, Rome, 23-24 November 2003.
