Study Unit ENT 4016:  Project in Energy Technology

 



Name of Study Unit: 
    Project in Energy Technology

Unit Details:                 A project at B.Sc. or B.Eng. Level consisting of 120 direct contact-hours and 240 hours of individual work on an energy project, spread over 12 consecutive weeks and usually carried out in  summer. This course would be available to local and foreign students following a B.Sc. or B.Eng. course in the fields of Science, Engineering or Energy Technology, where the credits could be transferred from one University to another such as in the EU Socrates-Erasmus programme or any other bilateral twinning agreements between the University of Malta and another institution.

Method of teaching:     Individual supervision, discussion and feedback on the specific  project. Each student will have a supervisor, who would provide guidance on initial reading and data sources, comment on draft  reports, and provide support and feedback at all stages of the work.

Objectives:

                                     -     To enable the student to put into practice the theoretical  knowledge that was acquired throughout the course years;

                                          -       To focus on a specific topic in greater detail;

                                     -     To provide an opportunity for the student to plan, manage and implement an individual research and development project in energy technology;
                                         
                                     - To prepare a dissertation and defend it in an oral session.


Content:                     
The study course is based on defining a project within a field of energy technology, preparing a proposal, setting an appropriate methodology, targets and deliverables and implementing the whole project within the time frame of 12 consecutive weeks.

Assessment:               Individual Report (up to 100 pages excluding appendices) and Oral Presentation (up to 30 minutes). The supervisor and at least another local examiner as well as an optional external examiner  will simultaneously carry out the assessment.
