  Project in Energy Technology


Name of Study Unit:         Project in Energy Technology

Unit Details:                      A project at M.Sc. Level consisting of 150 direct contact-hours and 250 hours of individual work on an energy project, spread over 12 consecutive weeks and usually carried out in summer.

                                        This course would be available to local and foreign students following an M.Sc. course in the field of energy or one of its related topics, where the credits could be transferred from one University to another such as in the EU Socrates-Erasmus programme or any other bilateral twinning agreements between the University of Malta and another institution.

Method of teaching:         Individual supervision, discussion and feedback on the specific    project. Each student will have a supervisor, who would provide    guidance on initial reading and data sources, comment on draft   reports, and provide encouragement and feedback at all stages of the work.

Objectives:

       -    To enable the student to formulate, plan and execute a particular energy project;
-    To apply theoretical knowledge and acquire experience in using empirical analysis tools to solve a hands-on problem in energy technology;
-    To enhance the capacity of independent research and provide an opportunity to build on personal skills in addressing an energy issue;
-    To deliver results, as would be required in real-life working environments.

Content:                            The study course is based on defining a project within a field of energy technology, preparing a proposal, setting an appropriate methodology, targets and deliverables and implementing the whole project within the time frame of 12 consecutive weeks.

Assessment:                     Individual Report (up to 100 pages) and Oral Presentation (up to 30 minutes). The supervisor and at least another local examiner as well as an optional external examiner will simultaneously carry out the assessment.
