ENERGY EFFICIENCY & RENEWABLES: POLICIES, APPLICATIONS & RESEARCH
29th January 2008, Salina, Malta
A one-day seminar on energy efficiency & renewable energy policies, application and research,
organised by the Institute for Energy Technology, of the University of Malta.
Policy making, research and applications on energy efficiency and renewables have recently become major areas of interest to legislators, energy providers and users. Various EU Energy Directives focus on energy efficiency as the immediate measure required to curb increasing use of fossil fuels. Malta is an island that is fully dependent on imported fossil fuel supplies, and hence it would be the first to suffer the consequences of sudden changes in the provision or cost of this essential commodity. Consequently, Malta should be at the forefront of applying energy efficient measures to everyday life. Likewise, renewable energy technologies are important to diversify the energy mix of the Island and reduce pollution. This seminar aims at presenting existing policies, experiences and case studies of energy efficiency and renewables as applied in some European countries and Malta, in order to raise awareness and stimulate further cooperation between interested parties. The seminar covers a number of topics that include energy policies, energy efficiency and renewable energy in Spain, the U.K. and Malta. An exhibition by companies active in the field of energy efficiency will also be displayed.
