DEPARTMENT OF EUROPEAN AND COMPARATIVE LAW
The Department of European and Comparative Law was established in 1993 and is now an integral part of the Faculty of Laws at the University of Malta. Since the restructuring of the Faculty of Laws in 1993, the Department has participated in the teaching of European Union Law, which then became a compulsory subject, at undergraduate level, in the courses organized by the Faculty (namely 2 degree courses, Bachelor of Arts in Legal & Humanistic Studies and Doctor of Laws, and two diploma courses, namely that of Notary Public and that of Legal Procurator). The importance of European Union Law and Comparative Law has also led the Department to develop a Masters programme in European & Comparative Law (Magister Juris), with an emphasis on European Union Law, but integrating into the courses offered a background element of Comparative Law, without which the picture of European Union Law would be incomplete. It is also possible for students to undertake postgraduate study and research leading to the degree of M.Phil. or Ph.D.
