The Master of Arts in Human Rights and Democratisation is a one-year full-time programme aimed at training professionals from Mediterranean and European countries in the field of Human Rights and Democratisation. The year is divided into two semesters. The first semester is held in Malta and aims at giving the students a complete and structured overview of Human Rights and Democratisation issues through an interdisciplinary approach. During this semester students follow a taught programme, details of which are given below. The students are required to attend lectures and to participate in tutorials and seminars offered in each study-unit. The programme for the first semester is divided into five (5) study units as listed and described in the course catalogue. As for the second semester, students are required to spend three (3) months at one of the participating institutions or at any other institution approved by the Board of Studies. The objective of this semester is to provide an opportunity for the students to specialize and focus their attention in a particular area of Human Rights and Democratisation. During this semester, students are expected to conduct independent research on the chosen area of specialisation, under the supervision of an appointed supervisor/s and to write a dissertation of 25,000 words.
