An information service for present and prospective students taking Geography at the University of Malta. Geography is becoming an increasingly popular option for students both at secondary and university levels. Most students enjoy the scope of the material covered, the insights it can provide into understanding the world around us, and the sheer contemporary nature of the issues it tackles. You will probably have appreciated its versatility already. Aspects of geography cover both the Humanities and the Sciences, and hence it combines naturally with a whole range of other subjects. Questions that arise though are generally linked to the availability of jobs with a degree in Geography. The answer to these questions is related to the study of the subject itself. The skills you use in your geographical studies make you of potential interest to a wide range of employers. These range from overseas development organisations; environment related jobs; such as field study officers, landscape architects, estate managers, environmental consultants, hydrologist, geomorphologist; map work and computing, such as surveyors, cartographers, GIS analyst, map librarian; population, settlement and industry related jobs, such as a statistician, market researcher, housing officer, town planner, transport planner, town centre manager in local councils, crime analyst, police officer; tourism, such as tourism officers, travel agent. In Malta other, more traditional professional graduates still dominate some of these positions. Times are changing though, and geographers are finding their way into many organisations, achieving high levels of success. The information provided on this web page is for information purposes only. Its aim is to provide the present and prospective student an insight into what geography graduates have done over the years since the course opened at the University of Malta. This information remains property of the Geography Division and should not be use by third parties for any other purpose, other then the one stated above.
