A journal dedicated to excellence in research concerning contemporary social transformations in Europe and the Mediterranean.

The Mediterranean Social Sciences Review (MSSR) is a seminal research vehicle in the social sciences with a view towards discerning, comprehending and responding to social transformations and the 'signs of the times' within the North-South European Mediterranean context. It is the official mouthpiece of the International Institute for the Social Sciences of the Foundation for International Studies and its coordinated body, the European Mediterranean Network of the Social Sciences, EUMENESS, the birthchild of the renowned former Vienna Centre of the International Social Sciences Council at UNESCO.

The journal acts as an interface for cultural dialogue, the sharing of cultural worlds, the cross-fertilization of European and Mediterranean identities, and local and national narratives. Its purpose is the birth and fostering of attitudes of tolerance, acceptance, and partnership; the diffusion of social misconceptions of 'otherness'; the comprehension of differing lifestyles and the promotion of a spirit of mutual recognition and respect between cultures.

As a venue of speech for the social sciences, it is a platform for the most marginalized and plaintive voices of our times in Europe and the Mediterranean. As such, it covers issues concerning gender, religion, race, refugees and migration movements, human rights, multiculturalism, and socio-political and economic marginalization in the context of a North-South approchement within the spirit of open social critique.
